It's Fri-yay!! Welcome to another blog post for Allez les Belges and today we go to Northern Africa! Let's meet Marijke Spooren who owns a beautiful guesthouse in the middle of the medina of Marrakech!
What is your current job/role in the tourism industry? I'm the owner of Dar Chadia, a guest house located in the medina near the famous Jamaa El Fna square in Marrakech, Morocco. We mainly focus on a real personal contact with our guests and we provide personalized recommendations for each guest. We organize a la carte tours which highlight the authentic life of the Berber population, which is a bit of a hidden face of society. And of course we give practical tips so our guests can truly enjoy their vacation.
Your own favorite vacation destination: I love to travel, but I am not a fan of group travel. For my years my partner and I traveled across the African continent. This is where my heart it and it's always a bit of a life lesson. We can all learn from each other and diversity provides value for a society. Eventually, I ended up in Morocco before the Arab Spring.
What is the motto you live by: I don't really have a motto, but I believe in equality for all. If we love and understand one another, society would be a lot more beautiful.
What do you miss most about Belgium: Belgian chocolate, my Belgian friends and a more relaxed approach when meeting people.
